Responsibilities
The City of Sacramento’s Department of Transportation is looking for a student intern to work in its Street Services Division. The position will be working with division staff and consultants in field data collection using GPS and updating GIS data, as well as perform other administrative and/or technical support duties. A student majoring in Geographic Information Systems, Information Technology or Civil Engineering is highly desirable. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: taking digital photos and downloading information into office ARCGIS system; updating data on GIS most likely to be shapefiles and/or ArcSDE layers; data creation such as geocoding (i.e., creating GIS data from address values), digitizing of polygons, lines, points, add and fill in attributes; developing, updating and maintaining database projects using MS Access; performing technical research in GIS; producing maps which satisfy departmental user requirements; constructing queries and macros using GIS databases.
Preferred Abilities
• Knowledge of Microsoft XP, Access, and Office required.
• Knowledge of GIS/Arc Pad and GPS required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and cooperatively with others in a team environment.

Selected candidate must provide copy of driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance. The City will perform DMV check. Parking is provided.
Mandatory Qualification
Applicants must be currently enrolled and attending a California accredited college or university and must maintain a minimum of 6 semester units (or quarter equivalent) and an overall GPA of 2.0.
